Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree of English literature. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. She was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories such as arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
